ABOUT ANGELA

Angela photo

Angela started drawing at an early age as she could not sleep. As a child she would sit in the passage of our house and draw until midnight. At the age of 12 her art teacher asked her to draw the person sitting in front of her in art class. She was concentrating so much that she didn’t realize that she was drawing the portrait of her friend. The teacher walked past and exclaimed to the class to look at her drawing. She was so amazed that she had drawn the exact likeness of her friend. That is when she discovered her talent. She went home and drew this owl. It is one of her first drawings.

Her parents recognized her talent but the commercial school she was attending did not offer art as a subject. So her mom searched for an art school and found one the other side of Johannesburg. She attended The Johannesburg Art Foundation for 5 years every Saturday.

When she graduated from commercial college with a bursary awarded to her by the Chamber of Commerce, she wanted to attend college full time. But she had to wait two years before she had the financial means to do so. She did temp jobs until she could enroll for  The Johannesburg Art Foundation, full time course. She received a certificate in drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking. She was taught by Steven Sacks, Bill Ainsley and Simon Stone. She gave art lessons on Saturdays at her home to finance her materials for art school.

She didn’t really know anyone in the art world so she joined art groups to learn how the art world worked.

Angela is currently working in collaboration with VM Productions http://www.vmpfilms.com an award winning film production company in Los Angeles.
